In a world that often demands perfection and masks vulnerability, it’s crucial to acknowledge the significance of mental health and the power of healing. As women, we navigate a unique set of challenges and expectations, making it essential to prioritize our well-being. Healing is not an overnight phenomenon but rather a profound and ongoing journey of self-discovery, growth, and acceptance.

I will admit I am also writing this post to encourage and remind myself about this mental health journey. If I am, being honest, these past months have not been the best mentally, and I have found my anxiety returning. My insomnia has me constantly fighting to function at my 9 to 5. But I need to remember to give myself grace. And I have found that I am not the only one that is going through this struggle. So my besties who are struggling and my fellow sisters who are feeling a bit low, let’s embark on this transformative path together, recognizing that each step we take is a testament to our resilience.

  1. Embrace Self-Compassion

Cultivating self-compassion is a vital starting point in pursuing healing. Treat yourself with the kindness and understanding you would offer a dear friend. This can be hard if you are an overthinker. We tend to set some unrealistic goals for ourselves and second guess everything we do but we need to acknowledge that it’s okay to have bad days, and that self-love is not contingent on perfection. Allow yourself to feel and process your emotions without judgment. Healing begins with extending compassion towards yourself.

  2. Prioritize Emotional Well-being

As women, we often prioritize the needs of others, neglecting our emotional well-being in the process. It’s time to reclaim that space and prioritize our mental health. Do things that bring you joy, whether journaling, painting, dancing, or spending time in nature. Discover what fills your heart and allows you to express yourself authentically. Prioritize moments of solitude and introspection to reconnect with your innermost desires and aspirations. Also, remember ‘no is a complete sentence’, do not apologise for taking time for yourself.

  3. Build a Supportive Network

Healing is not a solitary journey but benefits from a supportive network. Surround yourself with individuals who uplift and validate your experiences. Seek out friendships and relationships built on empathy, understanding, and shared values. I am blessed to have this. I recently spoke to my sister, telling her I no longer get into heated confrontations with people because I have surrounded myself with an unproblematic group. Don’t get me wrong, we disagree because my friends are so different, but we agree on one thing: we treat and correct each other with love, no shouting or condescending remarks. We do not passive-aggressively attack each other. And yes, sometimes we get offended because we do not like to be wrong, but we get over it because we know that we mean each other well. Outside of friends, if you feel like you are going down a rabbit hole, seek professional help if needed. Healing is amplified when shared with those genuinely caring about your well-being.

  4. Nurture Your Body

Our mental and physical well-being are deeply interconnected. Take time to nourish your body by engaging in activities that promote overall wellness. Exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep (all of which I am failing at) contribute to a healthy body and mind. Additionally, practising mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises and prayer can help alleviate stress and promote relaxation. By caring for your body, you pave the way for holistic healing.

  5. Celebrate Small Victories

Healing is not linear, and setbacks may occur. Instead of viewing these setbacks as failures, embrace them as opportunities for growth. Celebrate each small victory, no matter how seemingly insignificant. Whether getting out of bed on a difficult day or reaching out for support, acknowledge and honour your progress. Remember, healing is a step-by-step journey, and every step forward is an achievement worth celebrating.

Our journey toward mental health and healing is unique and multifaceted. It requires patience, self-compassion, and a commitment to self-care. Embrace the truth that healing is not an instantaneous cure but rather an ongoing process that unfolds over time. Allow yourself the space to heal, unravel, and transform into the best version of yourself. Embrace the journey, knowing you possess the strength, resilience, and capacity for growth. You deserve healing, and your well-being matters. Let us create a world where mental health is nurtured, and healing is celebrated. XOXO
